Zapdos (15) - Fossil (FO) LP Pokemon
Zapdos (15/62) — 1999 Pokémon TCG Fossil Set, Holo Rare
One of the original Legendary Birds, and one of the most recognizable pieces of WOTC-era Pokémon collecting. This is the Zapdos Holo Rare (#15/62) from the iconic 1999 Fossil expansion — the set that closed out the original Base–Jungle–Fossil trilogy and brought the complete 150-card Pokédex to the Pokémon TCG for the very first time. As collector and historian Scott Pratte has noted, Base, Jungle, and Fossil together contain "the rookie cards of all of the original Pokémon," placing this card in a category that no modern reprint can replicate.
- Set: 1999 Pokémon Fossil (WOTC) — the smallest expansion ever released in the Pokémon TCG at just 62 cards, with only 15 holo rares
- Rarity: Holo Rare — #15/62, the final slot in the holo rare subset, featuring the classic Starlight/Galaxy holofoil pattern that Fossil was the last set to use
- The Error: On the 1st Edition and early Unlimited print waves, the foil was cut as though the card had an evolution box — which Zapdos, a Basic Pokémon, does not have. A corrected version from a smaller later print wave is the scarcer of the two variants
- Artwork: Illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita — Zapdos soaring through a stormy night sky, wings crackling with electricity
- Market: Raw Unlimited copies in played condition trade in the $15–$35 range; Near Mint raw copies regularly clear $40–$45, with 1st Edition Lightly Played examples bringing $80+
Zapdos is a chase card in the Fossil set alongside Dragonite, Gengar, and Articuno — the kind of pull that defined the late-'90s Pokémon craze. The Fossil set's vintage status and tight 62-card checklist keep demand structurally strong. Whether you're building a master vintage set, chasing the Legendary Bird trio, or anchoring a WOTC-era collection, this is the Zapdos Fossil Holo that belongs in it.
